revision strategies for the poetry manuscript

  1. read all the poem titles
  2. read all the first lines
  3. read all the last lines
  4. read the book front to back
  5. read the book back to front
  6. go get yourself a treat. good job!

If you do all that and find ABSOLUTELY nothing to change, then congratulations to you! I, however, even on what I consider a fairly polished manuscript, found many title tweaks, relineations, poem-shuffles, and poem cuts to make.
